History

The Center for Professional Innovation has provided training excellence in the mental health field for close to 30 years. The company was founded as Community Program Innovations by Lisa Kaplan, a social worker who identified the need for high quality training for mental health and medical professionals and educators in northern Massachusetts. The founding principles of Community Program Innovations that she established are still embraced by the us today. Those principles are to have top caliber professional speakers to present cutting edge information in an engaging and practical format, in a comfortable, convenient setting and at an affordable price.

In July, 2008, Lisa retired after 25 years of leading Community Program Innovations, and the company was purchased by Bridgewell, Inc., a non-profit agency whose mission is to guide individuals with disabilities and other challenges to achieve and enjoy their highest quality of life and personal growth. It was a perfect fit with Bridgewell’s long term strategic plan, which includes a strong commitment to the professional development of its mental health professional and direct care staff. In 2011, we changed the name from Community Program Innovations to the Center for Professional Innovation.

Expansion has marked CPI’s recent history. During the 2009-2010 training season, we tripled our markets, sponsoring workshops in Foxborough and Springfield,MA in addition to its core northern Massachusetts market located in Billerica. We also doubled the number of its workshop offerings from 12 to 24 per season, and moved to year round scheduling, to better serve its customers with more time to devote to professional development in the summer months. Many of the new topics and speakers offered by CPI come directly from the suggestions of our loyal participants.

In 2010, the Center for Professional Innovation achieved another milestone in our mission to foster professional development and continuing education among mental health and medical professionals and educators, by being awarded non-profit status, consistent with our parent organization, BridgewellWe also continue to selectively add top caliber speakers to its impressive roster that now numbers over 60 professional speakers.
